The Greatest Band of all Time

Philtrid's Music Page

The Cure in 1998

I bet you're waiting for me to introduce you to a musical group such as The Beatles, or even U2. Instead, I have decided to divert from the mainstream and dig up a band that surprisingly seems to have kept a low profile - especially when they deserve more recognition than what they have. The band I am referring to is none other than The Cure, an outfit that has been constantly on the change since its beginnings way back in 1978.

The Cure are, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the most diverse bands you are ever likely to hear. There is simply no other musical group that even comes close. Having said that, there is a 100% chance that you will fall in love with at least one of their songs. They started out doing pop/punk rock, moved round to the more aggressive and emotion-heavy genres, gone on to the electro-pop, rock, jazz, ballads, even chamber music styles. Most recently, to keep up with the times, The Cure have even moved into the techno area.

So why am I putting The Cure into the greatest band of all time category? Well, you give me one good reason why not. The Cure have sold over 35 million records worldwide. The Cure have a staggering list of masterpieces accredited to their name (albums, singles, and b-sides). The Cure are one of the best live performaces around. The Cure have scored nine songs in Triple J's Hottest 100 of all Time, which is a record that is yet to be beaten.

As any Cure fan would realise, MIDI versions of Cure songs hardly do them justice, you simply have to get the original records. My personal recommendation is the 1992 album Wish. If you find it, buy it! The Wish album is a true work of sometimes strong emotional art, and portrays The Cure at their very finest. Click below to download these files.
